The demand for facilities for large and small events of both Danish and International character is still intact at the Congress  and Events Division at Bella Center. Thus, there is no apparent reason for worry according to Congress and  Events Manager Lene Mortensen.  On the contrary, she is optimistic and busy working on the array the congress division's array of future development opportunities

We are intensifying our efforts
Bella Center will host a greater number of minor events in the future; thus, this is one of the areas in which the Congress and Events division plans to further strengthen its position. And this will be a reality when the new Bella Hotel opens its doors just under two years from now. The wide range of attractive facilities at the hotel will enable the Congress and Events Division to expand its business, particularly on the Danish market, which until now has not been the primary market.

Bella Center is presently a natural choice for the large congresses and conferences, but it is not always a suitable choice for one-day meetings, training courses, small parties, etc.

"With the hotel as an integrated part of Bella Center, we add a whole new product to our already unique product portfolio. Thus, we can intensify our efforts, especially on the Danish market, and hopefully attract more minor events in the future," says Lene Mortensen.

We strengthen Copenhagen

While new opportunities arise on the Danish market, a strong effort is still being made outside of Denmark's borders. A report released by ICCA (The International Congress & Convention Association) ranks Copenhagen as number 11 worldwide on the 2007 list of the world's most popular congress and meeting cities. Thus, Copenhagen is already one of the world's leading meeting cities, but this position is to be further strengthened. To realise this ambition, the Congress and Events Division at Bella Center and relevant partners (SAS, Copenhagen Airport, Hilton, DGI-byen, and others) have entered into a four-year cooperation spearheaded by Wonderful Copenhagen.

Under the title "Copenhagen - City of Congresses", Copenhagen is to be transformed into one of the world's five most popular cities for holding international meetings and congresses. This cooperative initiative features a group of leading players in the Copenhagen meeting and congress industry who are working together to attract even more international meetings and congresses to Copenhagen.

"It is quite natural that we are active participants in this initiative and contribute to strengthening Copenhagen as a congress and meeting city on the international market. By attracting more large congresses and meetings, we stand even stronger in relation to our competitors when it comes time for organisers to choose meeting destinations," says Lene Mortensen.

The aim of the cooperation is to double the total number of meetings and congresses held in Copenhagen within the next 10 years.

We think environmentally

Consideration for the surrounding world goes into the development of all new strategies and sales activities. Sustainability is on the global agenda and therefore also one of the top priority areas for the Congress and Events Division. Together with the rest of Bella Center, the division strives to help establish the best possible conditions for humans and our environment - both now and in the future.

We are fully underway with developing our new green strategy, BC Greening, and we have already completed a large portion of this work. But of course, we must do much more. We also notice increasing demands from our customers in this area. The food and beverages aspect of events has been an area of particular focus, as there is a rising demand for more organic and green food. We must meet all of these demands to the best of our ability, in order to show our customers that we take environmental issues seriously. So even though we are constantly developing and thinking forward, we do not do so without considering our surroundings," concludes Lene Mortensen.
