The Nordic region's best goldsmith is a Dane

Over the past weekend, everything from beautiful rings, unique neck-laces and classic and modern watches to magnificent tiaras have been on display at Scandinavia's biggest jewellery trade show GOLD*SILVER*WATCHES in Bella Center, where the ambitious Nordic goldsmiths' competition 'Bella Nordic Jewellery Award 2009' culminated with the selection of the most skilled goldsmith in the Nordic region.

The weekend has been dominated by jewellery in Bella Center where the trade show GOLD*SILVER*WATCHES was held and which saw, among other things, the presentation of the Bella Nordic Jewellery Award to the most skilled goldsmith in the Nordic region.

Altogether there were nine finalists from Norway, Sweden, Finland, Iceland and Denmark participating in the competition to win the prize. All the partici-pants have worked for three days to produce a brooch - an assignment which was set by the goldsmith Jytte Kløve. The finalists are judged, for example, on the basis of excellence, discipline and perseverance.

The winner of the first prize of DKK 50,000 was a Dane, Ulrik Ahrenfeldt, who is employed at the goldsmiths Guldsmed Lind in Horsens in Jutland.

"When I visited the show for the first time a few years ago, I promised myself that I would enter this competition. And here I now am - and the winner to boot," says an enthusiastic and proud Ulrik Ahrenfeldt.

There were also prizes for the second and third places. The second prize - DKK 20,000 - was won by the Icelandic goldsmith Julia Prastardottir, while the Dane Christian Hulsbæk picked up third prize, a sum of DKK 10,000.

Prize-winning young talent
The goldsmith industry also paid tribute to new and up-and-coming jewellery designers at the show in Bella Center with the BRAND NEW AWARD. The award was won by Alja Neuner from Austria. A judge had the following to say about Alja Neuner's design:

"Her design is visually striking, eye-catching, passionate, innovate and, in particular, possesses good commercial prospects," said Lise Aagaard from Aagaard Jewellery.

The judges included Charlotte Lynggaard from Ole Lynggaard Cph, Søren Thisted, OpiumOne and Rikke Agnethe Dam, the editor of Costume, Den-mark's biggest fashion magazine.

The prize is a free stand at next year's show in Bella Center.

This year, 7,058 people visited the GOLD*SILVER*WATCHES trade show.

New name in 2010
Scandinavia's biggest trade fair for jewellery and watches is changing its name next year to COPENHAGEN JEWELLERY FAIR instead of GOLD*SILVER*WATCHES.

Next year's fair will take place on 26 - 29 August 2010.
